Learning Objectives

 

  • Review the purpose and importance of case management to the helping process.
  • Understand the importance and ethical obligation of informed consent and professional disclosure statements.
  • Examine how to conduct an assessment for treatment planning in four areas: conducting a clinical interview, administering tests, doing informal assessment, and coming up with a diagnosis.
  • Understand the importance of the development, evaluation, and monitoring of progress toward client goals.
  • Learn about the use of psychotropic medications and the classification of such drugs in five areas: antipsychotics, mood-stabilizing drugs, antidepressants, anti-anxiety agents, and stimulants.
  • Learn the differences between writing process notes, case notes, and case reports and learn the basics for writing such reports.
  • Understand the importance of, and legal ramifications to, ensuring the security and confidentiality of records.
  • Learn how to manage and document client contact hours and understand their importance.
  • Understand proper procedures in making referrals.
  • Understand proper procedures in conducting follow-up.
  • Examine the importance of time management.
